PRESIDENT TO WATCH "LASKAR PELANGI" FILM
Jakarta, Oct 8 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono plans to watch the Indonesian movie "Laskar Pelangi" (Rainbow Warrior) at the I Blitz Megaplex auditorium here on Wednesday evening.
The president is scheduled to watch the film with First Lady Ani Yudhoyono and a number of cabinet ministers.
Before watching the movie, the head of state will listen to an explanation from National Defense Forces (TNI) Chief Djoko Santoso at 4 on Wednesday afternoon about preparations to observe the TNI's 63rd anniversary in Surabaya, East Java, on October 14, 2008.
Based on a novel of same name by Andrea Hirata, the film Laskar Pelangi was directed by Riri Riza and released on September 25, 2008 during the Islamic Lebaran holiday.
Assisted by Riri Riza and Mira Lesmana, Salman Aristo -- the scenario writer of the flim 'Ayat-Ayat Cinta' -- wrote the scenario of the Laskar Pelangi movie.
Laskas Pelangi is a story about the struggle of a teacher and 10 students for education in Belitong.
The idea to produce the film arose as Mira Lesmana and Riri Riza admired Andrea Hirata's masterpiece which was published in 2004 for the first time.
As Laskar Pelangi producer, Riri Riza said the film had a unique story and fully dynamic life with the appearance of 10 students of strong character and an ambitious teacher who had great and noble aspirations.
