Sidra Medical Center Offers Scholarships to UK-based Qatari Students
Doha, March 12 (QNA) - Sidra Medical and Research Center has announced it will offer scholarships to a select number of UK-based Qatari students following its participation in the Qatar Career Fair in London.
The scholarship team accepted a total of 70 applications for sponsorship, as well as five applications for employment. Sidra has now shortlisted candidates across a wide range of majors - including law, IT, marketing, finance, engineering, childhood studies, psychology, and food science and nutrition - and will offer up to 15 scholarships.
Sidra participated in the Qatar Career Fair in London for the third consecutive year.
Sidra Corporate Governance Strategy Project Director Abdulrazaq Al Kuwari said, "This year's fair was a great success and we had the privilege of meeting with many incredibly talented and passionate young people, a number of whom we see as future rising stars for Sidra.
"The scholarships we offer are highly competitive and our selection process is robust. We look for talented Qatari students who have the potential to become future representatives of their country and we give them our full support - both financial and nonfinancial."
HE the Cultural Attache Qatar Embassy in UK Khalid Al Mansouri said, "We are proud to be able to help more students realize their career aspirations and we are grateful to the Qatar Embassy in UK.
Abdulla Al Nahdi, 18, who will begin a Business and Management Studies degree in the UK, attended the Fair specifically to meet with Sidra and explained his reasons for applying to the Scholarship Program. "I spent many years being treated in hospital in London, so I know how important health care is. Some of my friends are sponsored by Sidra and they are comfortable and really happy. I also like the relationship Sidra has with Qatar Foundation. I think this is very important," said Al Nahdi.
Sidra communications project director Khalid Al-Mohannadi said, "Our goal is to develop future leaders for Qatar in health care, and to ensure a highly skilled workforce in line with the National Vision."
Current Sidra scholarship recipients were also on hand to answer questions and explain their own career plans to the students. One such student was Bouthayna Al Tamimi who graduated with honours as a dentist from King's College London.
With ongoing support from Sidra, she is currently enrolled in a three-year postgraduate specialist clinical programme at Guy's Hospital in London.
"I was given the honour and privilege to represent Sidra at the Career Fair," she said. "I wanted to convey to the students that this was their golden opportunity to be part of a well-supported and fast-growing institution that will develop their career and facilitate their professional excellence."
According to Bouthayna, the specialist orthodontic training she is receiving is essential in enabling her to become an expert in her field and to deliver the necessary care at Sidra. "I am, in fact, a prime example of the support Sidra gives to their students," she added. Sidra's scholarship programme exists to help students obtain the necessary qualifications to begin a career with Sidra, with approximately 50 scholarships awarded annually.
A total of 113 students are currently benefiting from the Programme - 67 in Qatar and 46 overseas. Once graduated, scholarship recipients take up positions in Sidra, working towards the realization of its three essential missions: patient care, medical education, and biomedical research.
For students graduating from Qatar's universities or from overseas, Sidra offers a rich diversity of careers within the healthcare profession and continuing professional development. (QNA)
