PRESIDENT RECEIVES CONSTITUTIONAL COURT JUDGES

Jakarta, Oct. 7 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono at his office here on Tuesday received the chairman of the Constitutional Court (MK), Mahfud MD, and eight constitutional judges.

The visit of the MK chairman and members was the first since Mahfud MD was elected to head the court last March 2008. The head of state received them at around 2 pm local time.

Constitutional Judge Jimly Asshidiqie was among those received by the president.

Constitutional Court Chairman Mahfud MD recently confirmed to the press that Jimly Asshiddiqi had resigned from his position.

Meanwhile, a member of the House of Representatives' Commission III, Imam Anshori Saleh of the National Awakening Party (PKB), regretted the resignation of Jimly Asshiddiqi from his position.

According to Imam Anshori, a lot of credible and competent figures and activists wanted to work for the Constitutional Court but they had to undergo tight fit-and-proper tests.

"For us in House Commission III, especially me, there is no problem with Jimly's resignation from his position as Constitutional Judge because it is his right to do so," Imam Anshori said.

However, he added,if Jimly's resignation was based on the fact that he was no longer elected MK chairman, his move should be regretted.
