RI-MALAYSIA EMINENT PERSONS GROUP TO HOLD 2ND MEETING IN KL

Jakarta, Oct 7 (ANTARA) - The Indonesia-Malaysia Eminent Persons Group (EPG) is to hold its second meeting in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from October 8 to 9, 2008, it was reported here Tuesday.

The chairman of the Indonesian representatives in the group, Try Sutrisno, a former Indonesian vice president, will lead an Indonesian delegation to the meeting, the Malaysian foreign ministry said in a press statement received here Tuesday.

On October 8, 2008, the Indonesian EPG delegation will attend a dinner to be hosted Y.A. Bhg Tun Musa Hitam at the latter's residence in Kuala Lumpur.

At the meeting, the Malaysia-Indonesia EPG would continue to deliberate on bilateral enhancing activities and programmes, and determine its future direction in order to uplift the current state of bilateral relations.

The meeting of the Malaysia-Indonesia EPG, comprising 14 highly distinguished and well respected personalities from both countries, will be the second of a series of EPG meetings, following the first which was held in Jakarta, Indonesia's capital city, from August 29 to 30 August, 2008.

The Malaysia-Indonesia EPG meetings have been mandated by the leaders of the two countries to forge and enhance mutually beneficial bilateral cooperation between Malaysia and Indonesia.

The EPG mechanism also bears testimony to the commitment of both sides towards ensuring harmonious relations in the years ahead and in harnessing the existing complementarity with the view to forge greater strategic depth in bilateral relations.

The Indonesian members of the EPG are Gen (R) Try Sutrisno, Ali Alatas SH, Prof Dr Quraisy Shihab, Datuk Drs. Des Alwi Abubakar, Dr Musni Umar, Dr Pudentia Maria Purenti Sri Sunianti and Wahyuni Bahar.

The Malaysian members of the EPG are Tun Musa Hitam, Datuk Seri Panglima Joseph Pairin Kitingan, Tan Sri Abdul Halim Ali, Gen (R) Tan Sri Dato' Seri Mohd. Zahidi Zainuddin, Prof Tan Sri Dr. Khoo Kay Kim, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr. Hamid Bugo, and Datuk Syed Ali Tawfik Al-Attas.
