MINISTER CALLS FOR END TO N MALUKU GUBERNATORIAL ELECTION DISPUTE
Jakarta, Oct 7 (ANTARA) - Home Affairs Minister Mardiyanto has asked all parties concerned not to prolong the gubernatorial election dispute in North Maluku and give the recently installed governor and vice governor the opportunity to continue the region's development.
The minister made the request through the press before accompanying Yogyakarta Special District Governor Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X at a meeting with President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono at the presidential palace here Tuesday.
"I ask every party concerned to think clearly. All elements of society want normal and calm conditions to prevail in North Maluku," he said.
The minister said the government's decision to install Thaib Armaiyn and Abdul Ghani Kasuba as North Maluku governor and vice governor respectively was made through a legal process and based on existing laws.
"We made the decision in adherence to the accepted norms and principles," he said.
The minister therefore asked Thaib Armayin and Abdul Gani Kasuba to start working and to embrace every element of North Maluku society to develop the region.
