Head of South Korean film festival awarded by US media company

BUSAN, Oct. 7 (Yonhap) -- The head of South Korea's largest annual film festival received an award from a leading U.S. media company in recognition of his accomplishments, festival organizers said Tuesday.

Kim Dong-ho, 71, who has been serving as the head of the Pusan International Film
Festival (PIFF) for the past 13 years, was given the "Nielsen Impact Award" by
the New York-based Nielsen Company.
The Hollywood Reporter, the media conglomerate's film industry publication, was
the presenter of the award at this year's PIFF.
"Under his shrewd stewardship, PIFF has rapidly become Asia's premier film
showcase," the Hollywood Reporter said on its Web site.
The film festival in Busan -- previously spelled "Pusan" -- has been held
annually since 1996. It kicked off this year on Oct. 2 and runs until this
Friday.
"PIFF has grown into one of the most important events on the Asian movie industry
calendar. In addition to promoting films from all over the region, PIFF today
also features an array of professional and educational events," the report said.
