President says Georgian-Azerbaijani relations go beyond regional boundaries

Azerbaijan, Baku, March 7 / Trend / Georgia-Azerbaijan relations are at the high level, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev said following the signing ceremony within Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili's visit to Baku. "Your visit will give impetus to the development of these relations. The history of our relations is also very rich. Georgian and Azerbaijani peoples have lived in good neighborly and brotherhood atmosphere for ages, and today we continue these wonderful traditions. I am very pleased that Georgia and Azerbaijan successfully cooperate as two independent states," President Aliyev said. He underlined that the history of both countries has a lot of similarities. "History of our independence is also the same. It is already twenty years we are independent states, and we have made great successes over these years. We are very pleased that Georgia confidently develops under your leadership. Ongoing reforms in Georgia are much appreciated, and Georgia's development under your leadership is already a reality. We, as friends and brothers, are glad for it and believe that Georgia's development will be very successful also in the future, and all the problems facing the country will be solved under your leadership," President Aliyev said. With regard to bilateral relations, they are very wide, he said. "Today, we discussed almost all aspects of bilateral issues with you. We again saw that there is no problem between us. On the contrary, our joint initiatives enrich our countries, expand their opportunities and at the same time positively affect other regions. The Georgian-Azerbaijani relations have gone beyond regional boundaries, and today our joint initiatives are of international importance. Our political relations are at very high level. Reciprocal visits are paid regularly. I am very glad that the Azerbaijani companies began to make major investments in the Georgian economy. These investments have a great future. Last year's figures are also very positive. Trade turnover between us is growing rapidly, and I am sure it will continue to grow also this year," President Aliyev underscored. He said energy issues were once again discussed today. "These issues have already been adjusted. Oil and gas pipelines Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan, Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum and Baku-Supsa have fundamentally changed the geopolitical situation in the region. Today, these projects serve to the development of our countries and at the same time contribute to energy security. With regard to energy security, together we will further ensure the energy security of Europe - both in oil and gas sphere. I am very glad that Azerbaijan has made a contribution to Georgia's energy security," President Aliyev said. He also touched upon both countries' activities in the international arena. "We support each other in all international organizations. This is a very sincere and substantial support. In all international organizations we vote for each another, which again underlines the strategic importance of the Georgian-Azerbaijani relations. I can say that Azerbaijan will continue to support Georgia in all international organizations. And I am sure that we will receive similar support from you in the future," President Aliyev said.
