STOCKS SLUMP AS CRISIS DEEPENS

World stock markets plunged on Monday as the financial crisis showed no sign of abating despite a multi-billion-dollar bailout for US banks. Stocks in London and Paris lost more than eight percent in late-day trade, while Frankfurt had lost more than seven percent.

Although the current global economic crisis is different from the monetary crisis in 1997, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said we should use this momentum to maintain our economic growth and safeguard our country from this global crisis.
