19 ETHNIC MUSIC GROUPS TO PERFORM IN SOLO

Solo, Central Java, Oct 6 (ANTARA) - As many as 19 local and ethnic music groups from both local and international will perform in the Solo International Ethnic Music (SIEM) festival from Oct 28 to Nov 1, 2008 at the Mangkunegaraan Palace in Solo, Central Java.

"We will have 250 participants with Rp1.5 billion on funding and the preparations have been 90 percent done," the SIEM Festival director, Putut H Pramono, said here Monday.

Asked about the source of the funding, Putut said that donations came from observers of ethnic music development and it wasn't always in the form of money.

The chief gave an example namely that the Surakarta city administration which had helped build festival's stage at the Mangkunegaraan palace, focusing on security of the guests.

The local artists who will perform in the festival include Viky Sianipar, Syaharani, Reza Artamevia, Innisisri and Balawan. This group will present a pop ethnical music.

Other participants include Sonofa (India - Singapore), Shin Nakagawa (Japan), Glen Doyle (Australia), Yi Chen Chang (Taiwan), Kande (Aceh) SG.teratai Pasiana (Selayar), Bambang SP (Surabaya), Lumaras Budoyo (Magelang), Ensemble Kyai Fatahillah (Bandung), Sound Of Kiser (Cirebon), Nedy Winuza (Riau), Al Suwardi (Solo), Gangsa dewa (Jogyakarta) and an Irian group.

This year's festival is the second time of a similar performance. It is expected to promote the tourist sector in in Solo.
