Health Council Honours Sports Day Participants
Doha, February 29 (QNA) - The Supreme Council of Health has honoured the bodies which participated in the events of Qatar National Sports Day (QNSD).
The Council hosted today an honouring ceremony at the Ritz Carlton Hotel under the patronage of HE the Minister of Public Health and Secretary-General of the Council Abdullah bin Khalid Al Qahtani.
During the ceremony The Council honoured 22 governmental and semi-governmental institutions as well as private companies which contributed to preparations for the QNSD events, organized on February 14, in addition to the local media and the Qatar News Agency (QNA).
Assistant Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Health for Medical Affairs Dr. Salih Ali Al-Marri, who is also chairman of QNSD Organizing Committee, described the sports day as ''an exceptional one by all standards'' saying it featured a large turnout of all members of society.
He emphasized that its success underlines the importance of the events of the day, which is the pride of the State of Qatar, stressing the need to continue activities that seek to promote human health through healthy lifestyles of which sport is an integral part of daily activity.
Dr. Saleh Al-Marri praised the great cooperation and effort made by the bodies that participated with the Supreme Council of Health in preparation for the day to make it a success story touched by everyone.
The Supreme Council of Health set up a higher committee to prepare for Qatar National Sports Day through the preparation of an awareness programme including a health-enhancing physical activity co-organized by various concerned sectors.
The programme of the celebration featured many awareness and educational events as well as the march of sports on the Doha Corniche.
On the occasion of QNHD, the Council also inaugurated a programme dubbed: "Win Your Health", which lasts for a year and aims to promote a culture of physical activity among the employees and increase awareness of the importance of healthy food. (QNA)
