S. Korean delegation due in Singapore for regional security forum

SEOUL, Oct. 7 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's Defense Ministry officials will head to Singapore this week, where they will attend a regional security forum with 26 other Asia-Pacific nations, the ministry said Tuesday.

The delegation, led by Brig. Gen. Choi Ik-bong, head of the ministry's
international policy bureau, will depart Wednesday for the ASEAN Regional Forum
(ARF) defense officials' dialogue, it said.
"At the talks, the participating nations will discuss challenges each of the
countries face in their joint efforts to fight terrorism and to maintain peace in
the region," the ministry said in a press release, adding the South Korean
delegation will co-chair the three-day meeting with Singapore's defense
officials.
Initiated in 2003, the defense talks seek to increase cooperation between the 27
regional members of the ARF, which also include the United States, Japan, China,
Russia and the 10 members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, the
ministry said.
