Free English-language brochures to be released for Korea Gallery
By Hwang Doo-hyong
WASHINGTON, Oct. 6 (Yonhap) -- A South Korean on-line game company will issue next week English-language booklets to promote a Korean folk art exhibition room at the U.S. Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History, a company spokesman said Monday.
GK Power will issue 10,000 booklets for free distribution at the Korea Gallery
within the Smithsonian museum, Suh Kyung-duk said.
The 120-page booklet will feature Korea's history, nature, family, Korean
alphabet, ceramics and other cultural assets, he said, hoping "the
English-language booklet will help promote Korean culture as the Smithsonian
National Museum of Natural History is frequented by over 6 million people every
year."
The Smithsonian museum will jointly hold a seminar on Korean culture along with
George Washington University later this month in time with the publication of the
booklet, he said.
Kim Sam-sun, head of GK Power, said he hoped "the booklet will help contribute to
the promotion of Korean culture abroad and enhance Korea's brand power."
The Korea Gallery, which opened in 2007, has more than 200 ancient and modern
Korean cultural items, making South Korea the first country to have a gallery of
culture at the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History.
The gallery features Korean landscape, ceramics, family, wedding, Korean alphabet
Hangul, Korea's presence in the world, and contemporary Korean art, displaying
items selected from more than 4,000 articles collected over the past 120 years.
