Continued aid relief for Cuban hurricane victims
Hanoi (VNA) - As much as 600 million VND (36,000 USD) was raised on October 6 morning by the Ministry of National Defense (MoND) and the Office of National Assembly (NA) to help the Cuban people to overcome consequences of recent calamities.
The fundraising ceremony held at the MoND's headquarters was attended by
the Defense Minister, Gen. Phung Quang Thanh, other leaders, commanders and
officers of the ministry, who contributed 500 million VND (30,000 USD).
At the NA's Office, the leaders and staff of the NA headed by Chairman
Nguyen Phu Trong donated their one-day salary at the modest, totaling 100
million VND (6,000 USD) in aid to the Cuban people.
Recent hurricanes Gustav and Ike wreaked havoc in 12 out of 14 cities and
provinces of Cuba , destroying almost 450,000 houses and leaving over
200,000 people homeless. Losses are estimated at up to 5 billion
