Over 260 criminal cases filed against officials in Kazakhstan

More than 260 criminal cases were filed on the evidence of violations whilst carrying out government programmes. The damage amounted to 2.2 billion tenge ($14.8 million), the official representative of the Agency of Kazakhstan for Fighting Economic and Corruption Crimes (financial police) Murat Zhumanbay told reporters on Thursday.
Some 184 criminal cases were sent to court in 2010-2011 and 157 individuals convicted to date.
The information states that most crimes were detected in a Road Map state programme. Some 170 criminal cases were filed in this area over two years. Seventy three criminal cases are filed on violation of the drinking water programme in 2010 -2011.
According to the financial officials, the greatest damage from the crimes too place in the construction of 100 schools and 100 hospitals. Thirty four criminal cases were filed during the reported period.
In addition, 19 criminal cases on the embezzlement of budget funds allocated under the food belt around the Astana state programme were filed in 2010-2011.
