Berdymukhamedov: Approaches of Ashgabat and Tashkent to international issues are close

Turkmenistan, Tashkent, Feb.18 / Trend H.Hasanov/ President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov noted the closeness of the positions and approaches of the parties to the urgent issues of international affairs in a telephone conversation with President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov, the Turkmen government said on Saturday. Turkmen President expressed belief that "the current high level of mutual understanding and trust between the two countries, as well as the closeness of the positions and approaches of the parties to the urgent issues of international life will continue to serve as a solid foundation for the constructive international cooperation in various spheres." President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov congratulated the Turkmen leader with a victory in the presidential election and wished him "further success in his important work at the highest public office." Karimov noted that the Turkmen-Uzbek partnership has acquired a new quality and content in recent years. Head of the neighboring states discussed the priorities and perspectives of cooperation, noting that there is possibility for further expansion of trade and economic partnership. Two states are connected by a number of large projects, particularly, a gas pipeline from Turkmenistan to China through Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan opened on December 2009. The parties discuss the possibility of cooperation in the implementation of the railway project, which would link Central Asia with Persian Gulf countries. Ashgabat and Tashkent discuss opportunities for increasing of mutual investments, implementation of mutually beneficial projects in different sectors, the diversification of joint activity areas.
