VP: POLITICS NEEDS TO BE MATERIALIZED, NOT JUST TALKED ABOUT
Makassar, Indonesia, Oct 5 (ANTARA) - Vice President Jusuf Kalla said here on Sunday that politics was not for speech but must be put into reality that could be enjoyed by the people.
"People may talk politics but talks only would not get us anywhere. Besides, progress will not also be made through billboards or ads. Politics must be materialized into good actions which could be enjoyed by the people," he told businessmen from Bugis-Makassar origin.
He said thousands of billboards or campaign ads would not be able to beat all good actions that had been made and enjoyed by the people.
"If the SBY (Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono) and JK (Jusuf Kalla) administration has done good things thousands of campaign billboards or ads may not be able to rival it," he said.
He made the statement in reaction to the presence of campaign billboards and ads set up by national political figures.
He said the best measure for knowing what SBY and JK had done was in the form of solid economic growth they had made so far, the unemployment rate that they had reduced, the number of airports they had built and how much rice they had provided.
"So the measure is not how big their campaign billboard are," he said.
The 10th meeting was attended by thousands of Bugis-Makassar businessmen.
