AD HOC GROUP FOR DEFINING CASPIAN LEGAL STATUS TO HOLD ITS MEETING IN ASTANA

Baku, 05 0ctober ,(AzerTAj)The next meeting of the ad hoc group for defining Caspian legal status will take place later this year in Astana, Kazakhstan.

According to Deputy Foreign Minister Khalaf Khalafov, representatives of Caspian
nations will continue working on the convention on the Caspian legal status.
Khalafov said Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan and Iran would continue talks to determine
borders.
Before the collapse of the Soviet Union, the Caspian legal status was based on the
Iran-Soviet Union treaties. Given the previous accords did not provided for division
of oil and gas fields, Caspian nations have to define the Caspian legal status
themselves.
