Border Guards abort hashish smuggling attempt
Najran, Saudi Arabia, October 04, SPA -- Patrols of the Border Guards
in the region of Najran aborted yesterday an attempt to smuggle a
large quantity of hashish weighing 1205 kilograms after exchanging
fire with the smugglers, it was reported here today.
Commander of the Border Guards in the region Major General Mohammad
bin Abdulrahman Alzahrani said the patrols of the Border Guards
observed a car trying to cross the border line. The car, carrying two
persons, was monitored with the aim of stopping it. When the
occupants of the car felt they were monitored by surveillance
patrols, they fired at the patrols' members who fired back and one of
the smugglers was arrested while the other tried to escape on foot
through the mountains and was arrested one hour later after resisting
arrest by firing shots.
Alzahrani said the car contained a large quantity of hashish weighing
1205 kilograms, a number of automatic weapons and ammunition,
military clothes worn by the smugglers to try to deceive the border
guards. They were seized to undergo legal measures. The two persons
were also detained to undergo investigation.
