IAEA resolution calls for nuclear free Middle East

Tehran, Oct 5, IRNA - A resolution passed in the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna on Saturday called for a Middle East free of nuclear weapons.

82 countries voted in favor of the resolution while 13 countries
abstained. It called countries of the region to work for a Middle East
without nuclear weapons.

It also called countries of the region to join Non-Proliferation
Treaty (NPT) and asked them to fulfill their international obligations
concerning the Safeguards.

Israel is the only regime in the region which is not a member of NPT,
while it owns 200 nuclear warheads.
