EU TO FIGHT FINANCIAL MAYHEM
European leaders vowed at the start of an emergency summit on Saturday (which began around 4:30 p.m. in Paris, or 9:30 p.m. in Jakarta ) to do what they could to fend off financial crisis that snowballed out of Wall Street and in is now hitting banks in Europe.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel said those who caused the trouble must be made to help sort it out.

RI MAY FACE DIFFICULTIES IN FINDING LOANS TO COVER ITS BUDGET DEFICIT
BNI bank chief economist Tony Prasetyantono said the United States' financial crisis would create difficulties for Indonesia to obtain external loans to cover its budget deficit which reached Rp99.6 trillion next year. He said that the government had to be discipline in the use of its liquidity and take a firm attitude with regard to the tight global liquidity.

A TOTAL OF 1,835 IDUL FITRI TRAVELERS BECOME VICTIMS OF ACCIDENTS
The number of people who become victims of traffic accidents is expected to be higher during the post-fasting month Idul Fitri season this year than that of a year earlier. Data made available at National Police Headquarters showed that in the period seven days before and two days after the Idul Fitri D-Day, there have been 970 accident cases involving 1,835 victims, of whom 427 died and 524 others suffered serious injuries.

10-KM LONG TRAFFIC CONGESTION IN NAGREG
Entering the peak of reverse flow of Idul Fitri travelers on Saturday (Oct. 4), the traffic in Java's southern lane was jammed and congested in a number of sections. In the Nagreg section, the traffic congestion reached up to 10 km. Congestion had taken placed since Friday night (Oct 3) until Saturday evening.
