THOUSANDS STILL TAKE TRAINS AT SENEN TO HOME TOWNS ON SATURDAY

Jakarta, Oct 4 (ANTARA) - As many as 9,120 passengers from the regions got off trains, and 7,194 boarded trains to their home towns and villages on the ocassion of Idul Fitri, at Jakarta's Senen railway station on Saturday afternoon.

"We expect 11,000 - 12,000 passengers to arrive today, an increase of 50 percent from yersterday," said Barosad, the Senen railway station chief.

The peak of the flow of incoming passengers was predicted to happen on Sunday with the arrival of about 17,000 - 18,000 passengers. "The estimate is based on the number of tickets that have been sold together with the trains that depart from stations in East and Central Java areas and their capacities," he added.

Sixteen reguler trains are still operated according to the schedules supported by four extra trains up to now to arrive at Senen railway station similar to the number of outgoing trains.

Meanwhile, the outgoing trains had carried 41,204 passengers since the first day of Idul Fitri on Wednesday. "I did not get tickets before Idul Fitri, so I decided to visit my family and relatives in Purwokerto today," a traveller said.

Last year, considerable numbers of people headed to their home towns or villages only six days after Idul Fitri, and the trend was predicted to occur again this year.***7***
