LAMPUNG SEAPORT PREPARES 24 FERRIES TO TRANSPORT POST-IDUL FITRI TRAVELERS

Bandarlampung, Oct. 4 (ANTARA) - State-owned ferry service company PT ASDP is operating 24 ferries and seven speed boats to transport post-Idul Fitri travelers from Bakauheni port in Lampung (Sumatra Island) to Merak harbor in Banten Province (western Java Island) and vice versa.

"The peak of the post-Idul Fitri travelers' flow is most likely to happen this Saturday as most people have to return to work on Monday," Zailis Anas, the operats manager of PT ASDP's Bakauheni office, said here on Saturday.
The ferry boats are to be operated from four piers at the Bakauheni Harbor and the seven speed boats from one pier.
Bandarlampung's Rajabasa bus terminal was congested with travelers heading to Bakauheni Harbor, while the Trans-Sumatra highway was full of private cars and motorcycles.
The number of Idul Fitri travelers at Merak and Bakauheni seaports five days before the holy day last Oct 1 was around 178,000.
Now (Oct 4), around 200,000 people are expected to make the reverse trips via the two ferry harbors.
The number of Idul Fitri travelers in Indonesia this year was estimated to reach around 15 million , causing heavy traffic on many highways and roads.
