FOUR KILLED AS BUS PLUNGES INTO RAVINE IN WEST SERAM
Ambon, Maluku Province, Oct. 4 (ANTARA)- Four persons were killed and more than ten seriously and lightly injured as their bus overturned and plunged into a ravine in the Sakari area, Eti village, West Seram district, Maluku province, on Saturday.
The fatalities included Second Inspector Karel Sinay, deputy commander of the police's Mobile Brigade unit in Seram, and the bus driver, identified as Devi Italessy. The two others were passengers of the ill-fated bus.
Nearly 20 injured passengers were rushed to Piru General Hospital and a community health center (Puskesmas) in Piru, capital of West Seram District.
The Jupantri bus routinely serves the Ambon-Piru route and the cause of the accident was still unknown.
Adjunct Senior Commissioner Muhammad Nasihin, the head of the Western Seram District police, confirmed the accident but declined to give details.
"I just left the accident site and I am now heading to Piru General Hospital," he said.
