Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan urge Kazakhstan not to leave Central Asia United Energy System

Kazakhstan, Astana, Jan. 31 / Trend L. Podolyak /
The Uzbek State Joint Stock Company "Uzbekenergo" and "Kyrgyz National Electric Network" urge Kazakhstan not to leave the united energy system of Central Asia, chairman of board of "Kazakhstan Electricity Grid Operating Company" (KEGOC) Bakytzhan Kazhiev said.
He said that at present, the Kazakh Unified Energy System operates in parallel with the Russian Unified Energy System and Unified Energy System of Central Asia. The surplus hit 700 MW because the Uzbek energy system works without balance.
This threatens the separation of southern Kazakhstan from the Kazakh Unified Energy System.
"The same situation was in December, as you remember," he said. "In this regard, we have initiated the separation from the Unified Energy System of Central Asia as a possible way out of this situation."
At present, the heads of KEGOC, Uzbekenergo and "Kyrgyz National Electric Network" are in Uzbekistan to resolve the situation. According to the information, "Uzbekenergo" and "Kyrgyz National Electric Network" urge Kazakhstan not to separate because this will cause great consequences relating to the limitation of the number of their customers. This issue is being resolved.
