"World Cancer Week" organized at Siriraj Hospital

BANGKOK, January 30 (TNA) - Bangkok's Siriraj Hospital is organizing the "World Cancer Week" from January 30-February 3 to raise public awareness on the deadly disease and encourage all patients to live with it properly and peacefully. The event, held at the Hall of the 100th Year Somdej Phra Srinagarindra Building and featuring exhibitions, videos related to different types of cancer, seminars, including the one on preventive methods against skin cancer, demonstrations of breast cancer and other health checkup services, is part of Thailand's observation of the World Cancer Day 2012, which falls on February 4. According to a cancer expert, Associated Professor Medical Doctor Adul Ratanawijitrasilp, cancer has remained the top killer disease in Thailand, with more than 80,000 new patients reported annually and its upward trend continuing, unless the western lifestyles, namely eating unhealthy junk food was limited, together with alcohols and smoking limit. The cancer expert acknowledged that cancer could be treated and totally removed if detected in its early stage, and that more people pay attention to regular health check-ups, widening opportunities for more survivors of cancer patients.
