DEMAND FOR MOTORCYCLES EXPECTED TO FALL 10-15 PCT AFTER IDUL FITRI

Jakarta, Oct 3 (ANTARA) - Market demand for motorcycles in Indonesia is expected to fall by 10 percent to 15 percent after the Idul Fitri holidays, an industry spokesman said.
Motorcycle sales in October 2008 is predicted to reach only 500,000 units, Dyonisius Beti, vice president of Yamaha Motor Kencana Indonesia (YMKI), said here Friday.
"Usually, after Idul Fitri, demand for motorcycles decreases 10 to 15 percent because many of the dealers do not open again immediately after the holidays," Beti said.
Most of the consumers had bought motorcycles before Idul Fitri, he said, adding that in September 2008 motorcycle sales had increased sharply.
According to the Indonesian Motorcycle Industries Association (AISI), national motorcycle sales in August reached 618,965 units while the total sales figure for the January-August period was 4.3 million units.
"I am optimistic that sales in November and December will slowly increase again so that by the end of the year the total national sales figure will be more than six million units," Beti said.
