ACCIDENT INSURANCE CLAIMS REACH RP9.8 BILLION IN W KALIMANTAN

Pontianak, Indonesia, Oct 3 (ANTARA) - The West Kalimantan office of state-owned insurance company PT Jasa Raharja received accident compensation claims for a total of Rp9.8 billion since January this year, the office's chief said.
"There was an increase by 20 percent in the accident insurance claims so that for the January-September period they totaled Rp9.8 billion," the head of PT Jasa Raharja's West Kalimantan branch office, Edwar Robani, said here on Friday.
He said the rise in the amount of accident insurance claims was not because of an increase in public awareness about of the benefits of joining the company's insurance program but because of a higher rate of accidents.
Robani said he predicted his company would have paid Rp12 billion in accident compensation claims by the end of the year.
"The amount of compensation claims is expected to increase due to the high risk of accidents in October, November and December because in these months people are celebrating Idul Fitri, Christmas and New Year holidays," he said.
PT Jasa Raharja's accident insurance claims continued to increase from year to year where it paid Rp7.3 billion in compensation in 2004, Rp7.8 billion in 2005, Rp8.3 billion in 2006, Rp8.9 billion in 2007 and Rp9.8 billion in the January-September 2008 period.
