AZERBAIJANI FM MEETS US DEPUTY SECRETARY OF STATE
Baku, 03 0ctober,(AzerTAj)Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov has met with US Deputy Secretary of State John Negroponte and his accompanying delegation.
Discussions mainly revolved around bilateral cooperation and reciprocal visits of both countries top officials. The sides stressed the need to solve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict in order to establish peace in the region.
Mammadyarov emphasized that resolution of the conflict is possible only on the basis of territorial integrity of Azerbaijan. To achieve this, Armenia should pull out its troops from occupied Azerbaijani lands, paving the way for internally displaced persons to return home.
Negroponte said he supports peace talks. American diplomat stressed the need of intensification of negotiations to achieve the soonest resolution of the problem. He highlighted the importance of Azerbaijan as transit country and producer of energy resources.
The meeting also focused on a number of other issues of mutual concern.
