Quality of Thai farm produce to be further upgraded

BANGKOK, January 28 (TNA) - Thailand is going ahead with its plan to further upgrade the quality of locally-grown farm produce to meet international standards, in preparation for the formation of a single community of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), with integrated trade and investment among member countries, by 2015. A meeting of executives from the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives and members of the Thai Senate Committee on Agriculture and Cooperatives, chaired by Agriculture and Cooperatives Minister Theera Wongsamut, resolved that urgent actions are needed to further raise quality and image of Thailand-branded farm products, in the lead-up of the ASEAN Single Community by 2015. The meeting also agreed to form a network, joined by various agricultural institutes, to improve management systems to ensure safety of agricultural products to be imported into the Thai economy.
