Thailand to develop security strategies

BANGKOK, January 28 (TNA) - Thailand's newly-appointed Deputy Prime Minister General Yuthasak Sasiprapa has publicly announced a plan on further developing national security strategies to keep pace with the changing global situation. Under the plan, General Yuthasak said, Thailand will emphasize more on intelligence coordination with foreign governments and international organizations, including those in the United States and Israel. General Yuthasak, a former defence minister, acknowledged that he has been assigned by Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra to supervise seven ministries and five offices and he will call meetings with authorities of the ministries and offices over the next two weeks to brief them on his policies. The deputy premier revealed that he will also hold a meeting with Thai Army Chief General Prayuth Chan-ocha to discuss national security policies, including those applied for the country's insurgency-plagued southern border region and will later seek the government's approval on the reviewed security policies. The deputy prime minister said he will then visit the troubled deep South to inspect the updated situation. (TNA)
