Officials assist victims of firework explosions in Suphan Buri
SUPHAN BURI, January 26 (TNA) - Teams of police and municipal officials have continued providing immediate assistance to victims of firework explosions in Thailand's central Suphan Buri Province during a grand Chinese New Year celebration earlier this week.
Police Major General Weera Butpho, commander of Suphan Buri's police forces, said on Thursday that he has divided police and municipal officials into separate teams to provide initial support for the affected locals.
The provincial police chief told reporters that some of the mitigation teams have been assigned to quickly inspect dozens of houses damaged by a fire caused by the firework explosions; while others have been instructed to urgently collect relevant evidence in order to provide sufficient help to the victims and some have been told to collect debris and clean the affected areas.
A series of explosions, triggered by a technical problem of a firework display organised as part of the provincial grand Chinese New Year celebration event at the Dragon Park in Muang District on January 24, set fire on some 37 houses in nearby communities, killing four men, one of them was a fireman, and injuring dozens others.
