FM returns to Yemen

SANA'A, Oct. 02 (Saba)- Foreign Minister Abu Bakr al-Qirbi return to
Yemen on Thursday after taking part in meetings of the 63rd round of
the UN General Assembly which was held in last September in New York.

Al-Qirbi told Saba that Yemen affirmed in its speech the importance
of gathering international efforts to fight terrorism and called
donor countries and organizations to support efforts of Yemen in
fighting poverty as it is one of the causers of terrorism.

He noted that Yemen requested the UN General Assembly to adopt
resolutions to protect religious shrines and people.

The minister also noted that Yemen's speech dealt with situations in
the region such as in Palestine, Iraq, Sudan and Somalia, specially
the phenomenon of maritime piracy which threatens navigation in the
Gulf of Aden and the Arabian Sea.

He pointed out that Arab foreign ministers discussed, in their
meeting held on the sidelines of UN meetings, the issue of Israeli
settlements on the occupied Palestinian lands, calling the UN to
hold a meeting to discuss this issue.
