PACE president hands over his post to French MP

STRASBOURG (A.A) - January 23, 2012 - Mevlut Cavusoglu, who served as the president of the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly (PACE) for two years, handed over his post to French parliamentarian Jean Claude Mignon on Monday. After a ceremony at PACE, Cavusoglu told Anadolu Agency and TRT that he was glad to represent Turkey and Turkish nation during this process. Cavusoglu said he was proud of being the first Turk and Muslim president of PACE. In regard to a bill which penalizes denial of the Armenian allegations on 1915 incidents that would be voted at French Senate today, he said that it was totally against basic values of the Council of Europe and it contradicted human rights and freedom of expression. Cavusoglu added he hoped French Senate would return it and common sense would win.
