Ex-foreign minister Yoo to head national Red Cross
SEOUL, Oct. 2 (Yonhap) -- Former foreign minister Yoo Chong-ha was elected as the head of the Korea National Red Cross in a central committee meeting on Thursday.
Yoo, 72, will formally assume the post following the approval of President Lee
Myung-bak.
A veteran diplomat, Yoo has served as the South Korean ambassador to the United
Nations and was the foreign minister from 1996-1998. Yoo headed the foreign
affairs policy team of Lee's Grand National Party (GNP) during the presidential
campaign and also served as a foreign policy advisor for Lee's power transition
team.
