Bangkok's renovated Laksi Prison opened

BANGKOK, January 18 (TNA) - The newly-renovated Laksi Prison in Bangkok’s Bang Khen area has already been opened, catering the first batch of 47 political detainees, charged with violating the emergency decree, since January 17. The 47 detainees, one of them is female, were transferred to the Laksi temporary prison from eight prisons from other provinces, where there were earlier arrested for setting fire at provincial halls and involving in violent political rallies. None of the 47 detainees involved in lese majeste charges related to Article 112 of Thailand's Criminal Code and they will be moved back to their prisons after their cases are legally concluded. It took the Department of Corrections two months to renovate the old Laksi prison, following a Thai Cabinet resolution last year on separating the accused of political cases from criminal cases.
