New Thai Parliament building site proposed in Saraburi

BANGKOK, January 17 (TNA) - A committee tasked with studying a new Thai Parliament building said Tuesday that it will propose that the new Thai Parliament building be relocated to the central Saraburi Province, where there is plenty of land. First Deputy House Speaker Charoen Jankomol, in his capacity as head of the committee, told reporters that he was presenting the proposal to the House Speaker this afternoon. Charoen revealed that his committee has proposed the new Parliament building be constructed on a state-owned and free land plot covering about 10,000 rai (about 16 square kilometers) in Saraburi, instead of in Kiakkai in Bangkok. Charoen reasoned that documents on the Kiakkai location showed the area was chosen for its historical significance; while the design emphasized beauty and overlooked safety. (TNA)
