HE Al Nasser An Official Spokesman At The Annual World Summit on Future Energy

Abu Dhabi, January 16 (QNA) - President of the 66th UN Assembly, HE Nassir Abdul Aziz Al-Nasser while addressing the 5th edition of World Future Energy Summit in Abu Dhabi , acknowledged the importance of the event. "With the UAE hosting the largest annual congregation specialized in energy is a reflection of its commitment to principles of sustainable development, and a clear indication of the UAE s committed efforts towards strengthening human capacity in the renewable energy sector." He highlighted that this will ensure that the UAE is "committed to coping with the increased demand for energy and to contributing to the preservation and protection of the environment." In his keynote address, as an official spokesman at the Annual World Summit on Future Energy, HE Al-Nasser added that hosting the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), is yet another indication of the UAE s commitment to developing and deploying renewable energy and clean technologies. Furthermore, this year s WFES opening ceremony served as a platform for the launch of the UN Secretary General s Year of Sustainability for All,the UN Secretary General said adding, "I thank Masdar and the Government of Abu Dhabi for organizing this important summit and hosting the launch of the International Year of Sustainable Energy for All. Energy is central to everything we do from powering our economies to achieving the Millennium Development Goals from combating climate change to underpinning global security. It is the golden thread that connects economic growth, increased social equity and preserving the environment," HE President of the 66th UN Assembly said. Urging nations and individuals to actively participate in the Year HE Nassir Abdul Aziz Al-Nasser further said, ''We need innovation that can spread throughout the developing world -where energy demand is growing fastest. We need partnerships with the private sector, which is the global engine of growth and the primary source of new investments. And we need visionary leadership from you from governments, from the private sector, from investors and from civil society'', the Qatari senior diplomat told the participants. As an official spokesman at the Annual World Summit on Future Energy, HE Al-Nasser called upon in his address at the annual fifth summit on future energy the entire world to work hard for reducing the impact of climate change, which he said was one of the major challenges facing humanity at this stage and that could be done through adopting a new strategy aimed at reducing emissions of greenhouse gases and to develop mechanisms to implement and improve energy efficiency and use of clean technology for fossil energy, capacity building and technology transfer and working out a roadmap to sustainable economic development. the occasion of the 2012 International Year for the provision of sustainable energy for all by General Assembly resolution 65 / 151 an important platform to educate the international community about the importance of addressing energy issues and the search for ways to develop the sectors of renewable energy and energy efficiency, water and waste management. He noted the President of the General Assembly initiative of the Secretary General of the United Nations Ban Ki-moon, who came to strengthen the General Assembly resolution 65 / 151 and seeks to provide sustainable energy in all parts of the world by 2030 by achieving the three objectives of the global interconnection, and universal access to modern energy services , double the rates of energy efficiency and double share of renewable energy ... noting that these issues include the launch of a special campaign with energy and study ways of activating the role of the private sector in this regard. HE Al-Nasser pointed out that the victory of the chosen topic of sustainable development and global prosperity as one of the four themes of his presidency of the General Assembly of the United Nations comes in confirmation to the importance of this vital issue for the international community . The qatari profile diplomat also stressed that ensure the sustainable use of energy has become more urgent today than ever before because more than one billion people still live without access to electricity to meet the basic needs of energy for daily life.(QNA)
