First mobile Cabinet meeting held in Chiang Mai Province
CHIANG MAI, January 15 (TNA) - The Thai Cabinet held its first mobile meeting in Chiang Mai province on Sunday and resolved to spend over 100 billion baht on development projects in the country’s northern region.
Thai Deputy Prime Minister Yongyuth Wichaidit had earlier said that Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra planned to hold the mobile Cabinet meetings this year and to stay overnight at every province in order to stay in touch with local people.
The mobile cabinet meeting, which took place in a closed-door manner at the Bank of Thailand office in the northern province, discussed development projects in Chiang Mai and nearby provinces, including a high-speed railway project linking Bangkok and Chiang Mai in which Thailand and China agree to jointly develop, other railway projects worth over 180 billion baht, a Chiang Mai-Chiang Rai motorway construction project, Chiang Mai airport expansion project and a flood prevention project.
Five companies of police officers were deployed and sniffer dogs were utilized. A US made bomb disposal robot was also used for the first time.
Before the cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra had attended a meeting of the Joint Public Private Consultative Committee to discuss economic solutions and proposals from the private sector on northern transportation development which is in accordance with the agenda of the Sunday’s cabinet meeting.
