Fifth Al Khor Fly-in Open Day Starts Tomorrow

Doha, January 12 (QNA) - The Fifth Al Khor Fly-in Open Day will be held Friday and Saturday at the Al Khor Airport, under the patronage of the Qatar Civil Aviation Authority (QCAA). The event organised to raise awareness on the significance of the aviation sector in an educational and entertaining way, is expected to draw a large number of aircraft and aircraft enthusiasts from all over the Gulf region. Speaking ahead of the event, Qatar Civil Aviation Authority Chairman Abdul Aziz Mohammed Al Nuaimi, said, "What we seek to do is entertain, but also something more important than that is the need to demonstrate to Qatari youth the excitement, glamour and purpose of the aviation industry. It s an exciting place to be, and the Fly-in will undoubtedly be as exciting and informative." Fly-in Day Organising Committee Head Sheikh Ahmed bin Hamad Al Thani said, "Raising awareness on aviation is the ultimate goal, and I am confident that it will be achieved over the course of the weekend, especially on the 13th, when the main events take place. "The Fly-in seeks to entertain, of course, but also to educate and build awareness among students, Qatari youth and adults on the importance of aviation as a sector and an important aid to the development of Qatar." The event is organised jointly by QCAA, Qatar Aeronautical College, light aircraft owners from Qatar and the region, the remote flying section at the Qatar Scientific Club, Al Khor Airport and regional flight clubs. It will see a diverse range of light aircraft from Qatar and the Gulf at Al Khor Airport, 30-minute drive north of Doha. The highlight will be an 'Open Day' on Friday which is planned as a community aviation event, and is being re-launched as a gathering designed to draw big crowds with daring displays of aircraft and aerobatic shows to thrill the whole family. Organisers said the objective of the Fly-in is educate Qatari youth about the concepts and practicalities of aviation, and offer them the opportunity to plan their future and choose the adequate specialisation to make a career in the discipline if they should feel the urge to reach for the sky . It is also a great opportunity for those with a love for aviation to immerse themselves in an experience by taking a closer look at a diverse range of aircraft from jets, to propeller aircraft, to microcopters among others. Representatives of Qatar Aeronautical College will be at the event for those willing to learn more about scholarships and a potential career in aviation. Aircraft owners from Qatar, the GCC and other countries arrived yesterday. The official opening will be tomorrow at 9am which includes tours for visitors and a display of remote-control aircraft with traditional music. At 1.30pm a police squadron will provide an air show accompanied by a search and rescue scenario, closely followed by a flying show at 2.15 and a remote-control display at 4pm. (QNA)
