Seoul shares open higher on tech, financial gains

SEOUL, Oct. 2 (Yonhap) -- South Korean stocks started stronger Thursday as institutional investors snapped up tech and financial shares, analysts said.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) rose 12.3 points, or 0.85
percent, to 1,451.97 in the first 15 minutes of trading.
Tech blue chips and financial shares got off to a strong start. Market leader
Samsung Electronics and top financial services company Woori Finance Holdings
both gained ground.
The local currency was trading at 1,193.85 won to the U.S. dollar as of 9:15
a.m., down 6.85 won from Wednesday's close.
