Pair of Bengal Tigers Born in Doha Zoo

Doha, January 11 (QNA) - Two Bengal tigers (Panthera tigris) were born in Doha zoo in a rare case of birth of a semi-extinct species in world zoos and reserves. The Bengal tiger, which lives in the wilds and forests of the Indian subcontinent, has been classified in 2010 by the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN) among animals threatened with extinction. Head of the zoo section Hassan Al Mohannadi said in a press statement that all precautionary and preventive measures for the success of the process of the birth of these tigers were taken. He pointed out that newly born tigers are receiving a special care to keep them in good health in captivity and in environments that differ from their natural habitats. He noted that distinctive services were delivered to the pair in terms of extensive hygiene and accommodation, and are fed twice per day with addition of calcium and vitamins. The Bengal tiger lives in each of India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan and Burma. Its pregnancy period ranges between 104 106) days and give birth to 1-4 cubs. It can live in captivity up to 18 years.
