Republic of Korea - time-tested strategic partner of Uzbekistan - Islam Karimov

Azizov / South Korea has always been time-tested and reliable in all respects strategic partner for Uzbekistan, which has consistently supported the implementation of large-scale national programs of fundamental reform and the profound modernization of economy and social sphere of the country. This was stated by Uzbekistan President Islam Karimov at the meeting with the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea Park Hee-tae, who is on a visit to Tashkent, the National News Agency of Uzbekistan (UzA) reported. During the meeting, there was a thorough and frank exchange of views on promising directions of Uzbek-South Korean relations, UzA reported. Park Hee-tae congratulated the Head of Uzbekistan with the 20th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between states which is celebrated on January 29. He noted that the leadership of Korea and the National Assembly appreciate the existing constructive and fruitful bilateral relations, paying special attention to further deepen and expansion of bilateral ties. To date, Uzbekistan and South Korea have accumulated vast experience of cooperation in political, economic, trade and investment, cultural and humanitarian fields, which serves as a solid foundation for implementing long-term mutually beneficial projects. There is a solid and comprehensive legal basis. State visit of President Lee Myung-Bak to Uzbekistan in August 2011 was the logical continuation of the practice of regular meetings at the highest level and has demonstrated the mutual strong political will to further reinforce the dynamism of the bilateral cooperation. During the visit, the two leaders have launched an unprecedented scale and attracted new technologies, construction project Ustyurt Gas Chemical Complex at Surgil deposit worth $ 2.6 billion. The sides noted the steadily expanding trade, economic and investment cooperation. During the first 11 months of last year the bilateral trade exceeded $ 1.5 billion. The total amount of alleged South Korean investment in Uzbekistan's economy has exceeded five billion dollars, and the amount of already mastered - two billion dollars. In Uzbekistan there are more than 350 companies with the South Korean capital. Activities of "Korean Air" company, that managing transcontinental intermodal hub on the basis of Navoi International Airport, where up to 24 weekly flights to the major regional economic and financial centers of Asia and Europe is commendable. The representatives of South Korean businesses are actively involved in the development of free industrial economic zone "Navoi", realizing a number of mutually beneficial projects. Cooperation with the Land of Morning Calm is actively developing in the cultural sphere. In particular, through the programs of the Korean International Cooperation Agency in Korea about 1.5 thousand representatives of ministries and departments of Uzbekistan have been trained.
