FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS` DECISIONS WILL BE CLOSELY MONITORED, SAYS M`SIAN DPM

PUTRAJAYA, Oct 1 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Government will closely monitor
decisions made by financial institutions in the wake of the financial turmoil in
the United States and Europe, Deputy Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak
said Tuesday.

This is despite the fact that there are no problems in the country's
financial system, said Najib, who is also Finance Minister, at a press
conference.

"Regulatory functions and decisions made by financial
institutions must always be monitored very carefully," he said when asked if the
government foresees any problems in the country's financial system.

Najib also said Malaysia was maintaining its stand in progressively
liberalising the financial sector.

"We are going for progressive liberalisation. We will monitor the situation
closely," he added.
