Kia Motors says partial strikes cost 13,382 vehicles in lost output
SEOUL, Oct. 1 (Yonhap) -- Kia Motors Corp., South Korea's second-largest
automaker, said Wednesday sporadic partial strikes by its unionized workers this
year over annual wage negotiations cost 13,382 vehicles in lost production.
About 28,000 workers at Kia, an affiliate of Hyundai Motor Co., approved a
revised wage deal on Monday, ending partial strikes that have been ongoing since
early July.
The revised deal included a 5.6 percent increase in monthly basic salary, a bonus
equivalent to three months of salary plus a lump-sum payment of some 4.2 million
won (US$3,479) and shorter working hours.
The Hyundai union approved a similar deal on Sept. 26.
Hyundai and Kia control more than 70 percent of South Korean auto market.
