MUSLIMS IN AUSTRALIA CELEBRATE EID WITH PRAYERS, FEASTING
By Neville D'Cruz
MELBOURNE, Oct 1 (Bernama) -- Thousands of Muslims in Australia are praying and feasting in celebration of the end of Ramadan Wednesday.
In Sydney, New South Wales State Premier Nathan Rees joined about 3,000
Muslims for prayers at the Lakemba mosque in Sydney's southwest, to mark
Eid.
Thousands more attended morning prayer sessions in various mosques across
Australia.
Because Eid fell on a working day this year, most festivities will take
place this weekend.
Islamic Council of NSW vice-president Ali Roude said the best thing about
Eid was "seeing the whole community celebrating together".
