Turkish intelligence service denies border information failings

Azerbaijan, Baku, Jan. 5 / Trend A.Taghieva / Turkish intelligence service denies all charges over providing information on Turkish-Iranian border crossings by Kurdistan Workers Party's terrorists (PKK) which led to the killing of 35 Kurds, TRT Haber quotes Hakan Fidan, chief of the Turkish national intelligence service, as saying. Authorities of the Sirnak province in the south-east Turkey reported that an air raid by forces near the Turkish-Iranian border led to the killing of 35 citizens at a Kurdish village. Turkish General Staff said air strikes targeted a group of militant separatists from the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK). However later the ruling Party of Justice and Development (PJD) admitted the dead were not involved in terror activities. The authorities are investigating the intelligence service actions. The military reported that information on a group of militant separatists was received through drones which conducted reconnaissance in the area. Earlier Turkish aviation repeatedly attacked the positions of Kurdish separatists from Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK). Their bases are located on the Turkish-Iraqi border. The conflict between Turkey and the PKK has been on-going for more than 25 years, claiming over 45,000 lives. The PKK is recognised as a terrorist organisation by both the UN and the EU.
