Six persons involved in attack on Indian doctor: police
Melbourne, Oct 1 (PTI) Victoria police, investigating
a recent attack on India-born doctor Mukesh Haikerwal has said
that a gang of six persons might be involved in the incident.
"A gang of six people, aged in their late teens or
early 20s, could be responsible," police said, adding four
other persons were also attacked in a similar manner in the
area on the same night and they are probing if the cases were
linked.
Detective Senior Sergeant Kerin Moloney, investigating
the case, called on the public to come forward with any
information.
"There were five significant incidents in public
places. We are sure there are people out there with
information that could assist our investigation," he said.
Meanwhile, media reports here Wednesday claimed that
Doctor Haikerwal, former head of the Australian Medical
Association, is recovering from an emergency brain surgery
after being bashed on the weekend.
Expressing delight over the news of Haikerwal's
improving condition and that he is expected to make a full
recovery, his brother Deepak said, "We are happy to know that
he will make a full recovery and again thank everyone for
their support."
On the reports of four others being attacked in a
similar manner, he said, "We were shocked to hear the news of
the senseless attacks."
