State President commends garment sector's achievements

Hanoi (VNA) - President Nguyen Minh Triet commended the textile and garment sector on its great development achievement and rising prestigious trademarks abroad.

President Triet was receiving 51 representatives of outstanding Vietnamese
textile and garment businesses in Hanoi on Sept. 30.

The textile and garment sector has generated stable jobs for more than 2
million workers, thus contributing to national industrialisation and
modernisation process and improving Vietnam 's image on the international
arena, said the President.

The President went on to say that Vietnam ranks ninth among the world's
textile and garment exporters with its export revenues being expected to
fetch 9.5 billion USD this year while its localisation rate only reaches
around 36 percent.

He therefore called on the sector to develop its fashion design, diversify
its products and pay attention to training and renovate technology and
equipment to raise products' quality and improve its competitiveness.

The annual selection of outstanding businesses of Vietnam 's textile and
garment sector was jointly held by the Vietnam Textile and Garment
Association and the Sai Gon Economics Time. This year's ten outstanding
businesses include Viet Tien, Tien Tien, Nha Be, Sai Gon 3, Scavi, Garment
10, Viet Thang and Phong Phu.-Enditem
