PRESIDENT CALLS ON DEVELOPED NATIONS TO SOLVE GLOBAL MONETARY CRISIS
Jakarta, Oct 2 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono called on the United States and other developed countries to bear responsibility for the solution of the global monetary crisis.
The president made the call at the State Palace after performing Idul Fitri prayers with Vice President Jusuf Kalla and cabinet ministers at Jakarta's Istiqlal Grand Mosque on Wednesday morning.
He said it was the developed countries including the United States that had the capability to overcome the crisis and stabilize the global monetary sector.
"Indeed, they have greater capability to overcome the crisis," Yudhoyono said.
He added the global monetary crisis should be overcome through correct and swift actions.
"We continue to keep abreast of the dynamic political developments in the United States day and night," President Yudhoyono said.
With unstable global economic condition, the developing countries were facing two main problems, namely inability to reduce the poverty rate and to overcome their own monetary crises, he said.
"Therefore the developing countries desperately want the developed countries, especially the United States, to be in the front line to overcome the existing problem," Yudhoyono said.
He added that if a particular country in the present integrated world economic order had a crisis, that country would have more capability to overcome it.
Addressing himself to domestic economic players, the President said they should build partnerships and maintain communications with the government in an effort to solve the global economic turmoil.
