PRESIDENT YUDHOYONO PERFORMS IDUL FITRI PRAYER AT ISTIQLAL MOSQUE
Jakarta, Oct 1 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Vice President Jusuf Kalla performed Idul Fitri prayer at Jakarta's main Istiqlal Mosque on Wednesday to mark the end of the month-long Ramadan fasting month.
The prayer, attended by a number of cabinet ministers among thousands of worshipers, was led by Husni Ismail before Religious Affairs Minister Maftuh Basyuni delivered Idul Fitri sermon.
After the prayer, President Yudhoyono and Vice President Jusuf Kalla took a few minutes of their time to shake hands with several government officials, ambassadors of foreign countries, and other congregations.
President Yudhoyono is also scheduled to hold an open house for the public later on Wednesday afternoon at the State Palace for the first day of Idul Fitri.
Since Idul Fitri is about "Silaturahmi" (strengthening kin and community ties), President Yudhoyono and First Lady Ani Yudhoyono will start the open house at 10 in the morning for the palace employees and government officials and again at 3:00 p.m. for the public.
Public visitors wishing to to have "silaturahmi" with the head of state during the post-Ramadan festivity are requested to enter the palace through the State Secretariat gate on Majapahit street which is to open at at 2 p.m. and close at 4.30 p.m. local time.
As in the past years, the people who would like to shake hand with the president and his family are required to be in formal attire but they are prohibited to bring bags, cameras, and cellular phones.
Tents have been set up at State Secretariat parking area and the road to the State Palace for the queuing visitors who want to congratulate the head of state.
President Yudhoyono will then hold the second open house at his private residence in Puri Cikeas Indah housing complex in Gunung Putri, Bogor, on Thursday, October 2, 2008.
